What filter?

Just like your vacuum cleaner, your furnace, your fridge and just about any other electrical or fuel powered motor, your car has got a filter, and not just one either! All filters need to be changed, and each kind has a different interval. Let’s start with your fuel filter. It cleans the fuel that you put in at the pump for fine pollutants that shouldn’t make their way into the intricate components of your engine. Fuel filters typically last a pretty long time, and unless your car shows symptoms of blockage, or has fuel related issues, you shouldn’t need to worry about it. Now, if you happen to do some work near the fuel filters location, it might be a good idea to change it as well since gaining access another time may not be as easy. Next up we have your air filter, the one under the hood. (More on that later). This filter cleans the air that your car breathes, yes your car breathes! It inhales air that will later mix with fuel to combust. Just like the fuel, the air needs to be very clean. Since our air is usually pretty dirty (trust us, it is, wear a breathing mask for a day and you’ll see) and for this reason this air filter should be checked regularly, and replaced. Some air filters can be cleaned. Some air filters are high performance and do a better job cleaning the air while not restricting flow as much. These types of filters are a quick and easy way to add extra power to your car for a relatively low cost. If you have been reading our blogs recently, then you will be sure to guess the next filter, the oil filter. Oil is used to lubricate your engine, since your engine is made of metal, microscopic shavings can make their way into the oil. Well the filter will make sure to clean this right up, and for this reason needs changing the most often! Every 5000-6000km at least. The last filter is probably the one that we forget about the most, the cabin air filter. Yes, the air that you breathe! You take such great care for your car, and yet you’ve forgotten about yourself. If you use your A/C often, better check that cabin air filter. If you smoke in your car, stop, just quit all together, but if you don’t, better check that air filter even sooner and more often. If you get lost with all these filters, come and see us, we will look after you! Drive Safe! Don’t forget, we make a great alternative to the dealer for all imports such BMW, VW, Benz, Volvo, Audi, Toyota, Honda and all the others. Come see us, you won’t be disappointed ;)
