The Spark to Start
Our cars can do quite a lot. They can take us places, keep us dry and cool, or nice and warm, but they can’t start without a spark. This tiny little spark happens under your hood, in the engine. In fact, there’s one spark inside every piston and a distributor or a coil that sends that huge jolt of electricity to a small little guy called the spark plug. All of this happens at the speed of light. The starter uses your battery power when you turn your key and something called a starter spins up and turns your engine, while at the exact same time a timed jolt of electricity travels down the spark plug wire to your spark plug that is screwed into your engine cylinder. At the right moment, controlled by a part called a distributor, the electricity creates the spark that ignites the fuel and air and creates combustion. The combustion turns your engine and delivers power to your wheels. Once the engine is running, the starter disengages and your engine no longer needs it, it’s now self powered. The sparks continue as the engine turns, and each cylinders spark plug sparks up about 10 times a second during normal driving. (that’s just an approximation of course, since all engines are different) That’s insanely fast! Over the years your spark plugs and wires will need replacing. This can be tricky, each car has different spark plugs, and they could need adjustment before installing. Also, it’s important to note that if you install a spark plug incorrectly and strip the engine block, you will need to replace the entire engine block and it could be very costly job. That’s where we come in, let us change your spark plugs for you. We have the experience and the all the right tools, we will also be sure to get you the right plugs. All of this will be done for a lot less than a dealer would charge, and you can expect better customer service.
