Speaking of Winter… Car Survival Kit

It might have been the hottest weekend all summer, but that doesn’t mean that winter isn’t making it’s way. Today we are going to discuss what you need to keep in your car in case of an emergency. Taking the added precaution and putting together a solid kit could mean the difference between survival and not. Here is a list that we have come up with for you.

Carry a scraper on hand

A shovel

Brush

Booster Cables

A bag of sand, salt or even kitty litter (use these for traction on snow or ice)

Traction Pads will work too, and if you don’t have any keep some old pieces of carpeting

A First Aid Kit is key

Flashlight and/or flares

A blanket, sleeping bag or some extra clothes. Gloves would be nice

Some trow rope or chains

A few cans of some canned food and an opener

A Tin can, some matches and a candle used to melt snow for drinking water

And if you take any prescriptions drugs, it’d be a good idea to keep some of those in the car too

Extra Coolant/Antifreeze

Extra Washer Fluid

If you read our blog from 2 weeks ago, you would know about all the other things you need to do to your car to make sure it is top running condition for the winter. If you follow those best practices you may not need this survival kit, and it’s best that you don’t. But in case something does happen, these items are key to your survival. And let’s face it, you might be our customer, so you are no use to us dead. Another final tip is keep your gas tank full. The more empty it is, the more condensation can build up inside and freeze. This is not good, so the fuller the better. Drive safe everyone and be sure to come to Top Gear in London for all your vehicle needs, import or domestic, part or service, we do it all!
