What New Technology Awaits?
We are moving out of the industrial age and into the information age, and that means that our cars are getting smarter too. It won’t be long before our cars need an Apple Genius bar appointment to go with their oil changes, and here at Top Gear we will be sure to stay as cutting edge as mechanics can be. Today we wanted to share some of the current technology that’s available for us in car, and some technologies of tomorrow.
Adaptive Cruise Control - Cruise control has come a long way since just controlling our speeds. Today cruise control can not only control our speeds, but also detect cars in front of us and slow down entirely on its own.
Navigation - most of us have been using Navi or GPS in our cars since the 2000’s, but todays GPS abilities not only give us the best route, but they also speak to us and verbally guide us. Allows us to keep our eyes on the road.
Self Park - Still a technology that we will pass on, but if you aren’t the greatest parker, you may want to choose your next vehicle that can park itself. Just like the commercials, you too can impress your future in laws.
Bluetooth - A great way to connect to our cars, and not only for music. Some bluetooth devices allow us to connect to our cars OBD sensors for real time engine and fuel management. Who knew you could do so much with your phone.
Some technologies of tomorrow…
Self Drive - it won’t be long before cars will be able to drive themselves and let you do something else. Mercedes Benz has already been testing its prototypes in semi trucks, but Tesla has brought the technology to real life in it’s new Model S.
Adaptive Headlights - No more blinded by the lights syndrome. In the near future headlights will be able to black out the spot that hits the other drivers eyes and only shine light where the road needs it, keeping your eyes adjusted to the dark and never needing to readjust after being blinded.
So there you have it, some new tech that makes driving a bit easier. With all of this coming to cars near you, we think it’d be better to call us Automotive technicians, don’t you? I mean what would you call a person that fixes a driving computer? LOL As always, drive safe and be sure to stop by Top Gear the next time your car needs some parts or service.
