Get your Parts and DIY, Safely!

So you took a few classes in school or maybe you’ve seen a YouTube video showing how it’s done and you think that you can follow along, in either case that is great that you are taking the initiative. Studies show that those who do some DIY stuff on their cars are less likely to encounter a mechanical breakdown, so even if you the job is small, doing some DIY will be good for you and your car. We encourage DIY as long as conditions are being met. That’s why we sell import parts in the first place. We wouldn’t be able to keep up with all the work and cars if everyone just wanted us to do it ;) So what are the 2 conditions you ask? Well hopefully if you are a DIY’er, you already know what they are. 1. Safety!!! We can’t stress this enough. A car weighs a lot and if it falls on you it will kill you, so never under any circumstance use the spare tire jack or a lift without any backup supports to stop the car from falling if the jack(s) were to to give. Even a curb is better than nothing, at least it will stop your head from getting crushed. Yes, we are deliberately being graphic because this is too important to not stress. Always triple check all of your safety precautions. If you have what it takes to do it safely, then you can even begin to consider doing the job yourself. Second important item is the right tools. Not using the right tools can cause unrepairable damage to your car that might end up costing you lots more than it normally would have if you had just taken it in. So in this case either invest in the right tools so you have them for next time. A good set of tools can last a lifetime, so if you are planning on doing more DIY projects, get some tools. If you have both of these, great, you are almost ready to take on the DIY task. Just don’t forget that you also need time. It takes time if you are doing something on your car, especially if you are using a YouTube video and/or you haven’t done the job before. So you better have ample of time to get the job done, and always give yourself a buffer as you never know what else you might find or could happen. Last but not least, in case you didn’t think of good lighting being in the tools category, it should be. You need lots of good light, and usually a light that you can hang in your workspace does a nice job. All that being said, this article may have convinced you to tackle your next mechanical issue yourself, or it has scared the heck out of you and you are simply going to let the pros handle it. In either case, we are here to help you. We offer a huge selection on high quality aftermarket and original OEM parts for all of your imports in London Ontario.
